Carrick Hurling Club (St. Marys) vs Longford Slashers

At Glennon Brothers Pearse Park · Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, Longford, Co. Longford

Longford GAA fixture

Underage hurling in Ireland is where the game is won and lost at county level, and this U14 Hurling Cup Round 1 fixture between Carrick Hurling Club (St. Marys) and Longford Slashers is exactly the kind of match that shapes young players for years ahead. Carrick Hurling Club, based in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim, have been competing in Longford GAA underage competitions since 2021, bringing cross-county rivalry and fresh competition to the grade. Longford Slashers are one of the county’s most decorated hurling clubs, with 12 Senior Hurling Championship titles to their name and a strong underage tradition stretching from under-8 right through to Minor. An early Sunday morning start makes this a fine family outing with the rest of the day still ahead.

What to expect

This is U14 Hurling Cup - Round 1, so the stakes are real even at this early stage: both clubs will be fielding young hurlers with plenty to prove. Underage GAA matches at Pearse Park have a relaxed, community atmosphere - sideline banter, parents with folding chairs, club mentors calling instructions. Hurling at underage level is fast and honest, and the standard in Longford has been rising steadily. Longford Slashers have been Féile na nGael national cup champions at underage level and bring genuine pedigree to the competition. The match kicks off at 11:00, so proceedings should wrap up well before noon.
