Longford Town FC vs Finn Harps

At Finn Harps Stadium · Finn Harps Stadium, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal

Longford Town FC away match

Longford Town FC make the long Friday evening run up to Ballybofey to face Finn Harps in the SSE Airtricity League First Division. It is a genuine road trip for Longford supporters - roughly two and a half hours each way through the midlands and into northwest Donegal - but Finn Park is one of the more atmospheric grounds in the League of Ireland, and a live away fixture has its own appeal that a home match rarely matches. This one suits any fan who follows Longford Town on the road, or a neutral who wants an evening of first-division football in a compact, proper terrace ground.

What to expect

Finn Park sits on the edge of Ballybofey beside the River Finn, and the ground has a character that larger, redeveloped stadia have lost. The covered “Shed” stand on the Navenny Road side holds a mix of seating and terracing; the “Town End” terrace on Chestnut Road is the louder home section. Away supporters typically occupy a clearly signed area - check with Longford Town FC beforehand for their allocation. The safe capacity is around 4,200.

Finn Harps were founded in 1954 and have been a League of Ireland side since 1969, so the club carries real history despite the modest ground. Longford Town, founded in 1924 and in the league since 1984, are no strangers to First Division football either. Both sides know what this division demands. Kick-off is 19:45, so you will be watching in full evening light through most of the first half in August.

Getting there

Ballybofey is in northwest County Donegal, roughly 220 km from Longford town. The most direct route from Longford is via the N55 and N16 through Cavan and Enniskillen, crossing briefly into Northern Ireland before re-entering Donegal. Allow at least two hours and thirty minutes. There is roadside and car park space in Ballybofey town, a short walk from Finn Park. Public transport from Longford to Ballybofey is limited for an evening kick-off - a car share with fellow supporters is the practical option. Longford Town FC may also organise supporter travel; check ltfc.ie.

While you’re in Longford

The match is away in Donegal, but Longford Town is the club to follow. If you are based in the county, the town itself sits on the River Camlin and has a solid choice of pubs and restaurants for a pre-match or post-match evening. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
