Longford Town FC vs Wexford FC

At Bishopsgate Stadium · Bishopsgate, Longford, Co. Longford

Longford Town FC vs Wexford FC

Longford Town FC take on Wexford FC at Bishopsgate Stadium in a Saturday evening SSE Airtricity League First Division fixture - the kind of summer match that pulls in a proper crowd on the Strokestown Road. This is League of Ireland football at its most local and honest: a tight ground, a loyal support, and two clubs who want the three points badly. If you have never been to a First Division match, this is a fine place to start. Families, football tourists and Longford locals will all find it worth the trip.

What to expect

Kick-off is at 19:30, so the evening light should still be good when the teams come out. Bishopsgate is a compact all-seater ground with a capacity of around 5,000 - no bad seat in the place, and you will feel close to the action throughout. Food and drink are available from the clubhouse in the main stand and from a small cabin: tea, coffee, soup, sandwiches and soft drinks. The atmosphere at First Division level tends to be relaxed, and supporters on both sides generally mix without bother. Longford entered 2026 aiming for a top-five finish and a play-off place, so there is real motivation on show.

Getting there

Bishopsgate sits on the N5 Strokestown Road, about a kilometre west of Longford town centre, in the townland of Mullolagher. There is a generous car park on site that handles the bulk of match-day traffic comfortably. Longford town is well served by Irish Rail from Dublin Heuston and from the West - the journey from Dublin is roughly 90 minutes, and the stadium is walkable from Longford railway station in about 15 minutes. Bus Eireann also operates services into Longford town on the main Dublin to Westport/Ballina corridor. If you are driving from Dublin, the M4 to Mullingar and then the N4 into Longford is the standard route, and traffic on a Saturday evening is generally light.

While you’re in Longford

Longford town has several places to eat and drink before or after the match. If you are making a day of it, Lough Ree to the south-east and the Royal Canal Greenway are both worth a look. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
