What to Expect

The Assumption of Mary on August 15th is celebrated at Knock Shrine with special Mass celebrations and marks the opening of the traditional nine-day National Novena (August 14-22). Thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Assumption into heaven. Knock Shrine, Ireland’s principal Marian shrine, hosts major liturgical celebrations throughout the day.

August 15th is one of the busiest pilgrimage days at Knock Shrine, attracting approximately 20,000+ visitors. This feast day also launches the important annual Novena period. The shrine operates daily with multiple Masses. Note: The shrine was historically closed on August 15th for special preparations, but current schedules should be confirmed with the shrine directly. Getting There

Knock Shrine is located in the village of Knock near Claremorris in County Mayo. Accessible via the N17 and N83 roads. Car parking available at the shrine complex. Knock Airport is nearby for those traveling from further afield.
