At St Mary's Church and St Oliver's Church · Fair Green, Navan, Co. Meath, C15 X0A3
Navan Parish marks the run-up to its patronal feast with a three-day Triduum in honour of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, beginning Thursday 13 August 2026 and running through to the feast day itself on Saturday 15 August. A triduum, from the Latin for “three days,” is a traditional period of preparatory prayer held in the days immediately before a major feast, and Navan’s is held across the parish’s two churches, St Mary’s on Fair Green and St Oliver’s on the eastern side of town. Each of the three evenings builds towards the Patron Day celebrations that close out the programme on the 15th, when St Mary’s Parish marks the Feast of the Assumption as its patronal feast day. The parish bulletin notes that the usual 8am weekday Mass at St Mary’s is suspended for the month of August while the Triduum and Patron Day programme run, reflecting the extra focus placed on the mid-August devotions. The Assumption, the belief that Mary was taken body and soul into heaven, is one of the most significant feasts in the Catholic calendar and is treated in Navan as an occasion for the wider parish community, not solely regular Mass-goers.
