Free guided tours of the Hill of Slane take place every Sunday from April to October, meeting at the gates at 2pm. The 40-minute tour covers the site’s rich history including its pre-Christian origins, the legendary confrontation between St Patrick and the druids at the lighting of the Paschal Fire in 433 AD, the medieval Franciscan friary ruins, and the panoramic views across the Boyne Valley to the Newgrange landscape. Group bookings can be arranged year-round by emailing hillofslanetours@yahoo.ie. Heritage Week 2026 (15-23 August) typically includes additional special tours.
