What to Expect

OPW guides are on site at the Hill of Tara from 1 May to 30 September daily, with the site open 10am to 5pm. Guided tours last 35-40 minutes and depart from the visitor centre on request, with a maximum of 50 people per tour. The tours cover the Hill’s significance as the ceremonial seat of the High Kings of Ireland, the Iron Age ringforts, the Lia Fail standing stone, and the Neolithic Mound of the Hostages. An audiovisual presentation “Tara - A Royal Sanctuary” is available at the visitor centre. The Tara Lecture Series takes place on the first four Wednesdays of July.

Getting There

The Hill of Tara is signposted off Junction 7 of the M3 motorway, approximately 12km south of Navan. Car parking (EUR 3) is available beside the visitor centre.
