At Solstice Arts Centre · Railway Street, Navan, Co. Meath
A week of singing, movement and performance on a real stage - this musical theatre summer camp at Solstice Arts Centre gives children aged 6 to 12 the chance to work with a qualified theatre director and discover what it actually feels like to perform. It runs Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July, mornings only, so it fits neatly around family summer plans without filling the whole day. The camp is led by Caithriona Mongey-Madden, a specialist in musical theatre, and the week builds toward a proper showcase on the final day when children perform on the Solstice stage for family and friends.
Each morning session (10am to 1pm) covers the core pillars of musical theatre: singing, movement and dramatic performance. Children learn songs and choreography and work on acting out scenes in a group setting, building confidence as the week progresses. The pace is designed for beginners and enthusiastic returners alike - the age range of 6 to 12 means the groups are mixed, and the focus is on participation and enjoyment rather than audition-standard polish.
The finale showcase on Friday is a highlight that children and parents tend to look forward to from day one. It takes place on the Solstice main stage - not a classroom corner but a proper professional venue with stage lighting and an auditorium, which makes the experience feel significant for younger performers.
Solstice Arts Centre is Meath’s main publicly-funded arts venue, supported by the Arts Council and Meath County Council. It runs theatre, film, exhibitions and a year-round classes programme, so the building is properly set up for arts education rather than being a hired hall.
Solstice Arts Centre is on Railway Street in the centre of Navan, the county town of Meath. From Dublin, Bus Eireann and Dublin Coach both serve Navan, with the journey taking around an hour. By car, Navan sits on the N3 approximately 50km from Dublin city. Street parking is available in the town centre and there is a public car park a short walk from the arts centre.
Navan sits at the meeting of the Boyne and Blackwater rivers and makes a natural base for exploring the wider Boyne Valley, home to Newgrange, the Hill of Tara and Trim Castle - all within 30 minutes of the town. There is more to see in Navan and across Co. Meath.
