At Solstice Arts Centre · Railway Street, Navan, Co. Meath
A three-morning art camp at one of Meath’s finest arts venues gives children aged 8 to 12 a proper introduction to gallery-based creative practice. Rather than following a set project sheet, participants at Solstice Arts Centre take their cues from real artworks on display in the Solstice Gallery - looking closely, responding, and making their own work under the guidance of arts facilitators. It suits children who enjoy drawing, painting, or making things, as well as those who have never been inside a gallery before and are simply curious.
The camp runs on Wednesday 1, Thursday 2, and Friday 3 July 2026, from 10am to 1pm each day. Each morning session takes children into the gallery to engage with artworks from the current exhibition before bringing those ideas back into the studio to explore through hands-on art-making. The programme is described as being “inspired by a wide range of artworks in Solstice Gallery,” which in summer 2026 includes the group show “The Future is Open,” featuring works by artists such as Willie Doherty and Rachel Doolin. Children are encouraged to experiment with different media and techniques in a relaxed, supported setting.
The total cost is €60 for all three days. Solstice Arts Centre runs a busy youth programme year-round, and their summer camps tend to fill up, so booking early through the centre’s website is sensible.
Navan sits roughly 50 kilometres north-west of Dublin, about 45 minutes by car on the M3 motorway. Bus Éireann operates services between Dublin’s Busáras and Navan town centre, with journey times typically under an hour. The arts centre is on Railway Street, close to the centre of Navan and within easy walking distance of the main bus stops. There is street parking nearby and a multi-storey car park a short walk away on Kennedy Road.
Navan is the county town of Meath and sits at the confluence of the Boyne and Blackwater rivers, with a pleasant riverside walk to explore after the morning session ends. The wider county has some of Ireland’s most significant prehistoric and early medieval sites - Newgrange and the Hill of Tara are both within easy reach if you are making a day of it. There is more to see in Navan and across Co. Meath.
