What to Expect

Moate Heritage Centre is a local museum and heritage facility in Moate town. The centre displays artefacts, historical documents, and interpretive material on the archaeology and history of Moate and the surrounding East Westmeath region. Exhibits cover prehistoric settlement, medieval developments, local families and townspeople, and cultural heritage of the area.

Open during summer season 2026 (typically Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am - 4:00pm; closed Sundays and Mondays). Admission is free. Guided tours available by arrangement. The centre is housed in a town building; enquire about accessibility.

Getting There

Moate is in the south-east of County Westmeath, on the N6 Dublin-Athlone road. The heritage centre is in the town centre, accessible on foot or by car. Moate has regular bus services from Dublin and other towns.
