At Four Seasons Hotel & Leisure Club · Coolshannagh, Monaghan, Co. Monaghan
Monaghan U3A holds a monthly talk in the Four Seasons Hotel on the last Friday of every month at 11am, with tea and coffee provided. The next one falls on Friday, 28 August 2026. Monaghan U3A is the University of the Third Age’s largest branch in Ireland, with around 700 members, and the monthly talk is its main open gathering alongside a full weekly programme of classes and clubs for people in the second half of life.
A single guest speaker each month, with topics rotating across local history, travel, health, the arts and current affairs depending on who has been booked, followed by tea, coffee and conversation in the same room. It is the one fixture on the U3A calendar that draws the widest cross-section of the membership, since the weekly classes split people off into smaller interest groups such as choir, art, Pilates, French and Spanish, sculpture and social dancing, all of which run out of the same Four Seasons base through the week. U3A itself began in France in 1973 as a response to demand from retired people for ways to stay active, learning and connected, and the Monaghan branch, running since 2000, has built one of the movement’s biggest programmes in the country around that same idea. The talk is open to members, with newcomers welcome to come along and find out about the wider programme before deciding whether to join.
The Four Seasons Hotel & Leisure Club is at Coolshannagh on the edge of Monaghan town, with its own car park, a short drive from the town centre.
Monaghan U3A’s full weekly programme, from swimming in the hotel’s own pool to walking groups and a choir, runs out of the same part of town as the talk. There is more to see in Monaghan and across Co. Monaghan.
