Nish Kumar opens his 2026 UK and Ireland tour right here in Belfast, and it is quite the opening night to land. The comedian, best known as co-host of Pod Save the UK and former host of BBC Two’s The Mash Report, brings a brand new show titled “Angry Humour From a Really Nice Guy” to Ulster Hall on Wednesday 9 September. If you have seen Kumar before, you know what you are getting: sharp political commentary, genuine frustration at the state of things, and enough self-deprecating warmth to keep the whole room on side. If you have not, this is a very good place to start.
Kumar describes the motivation behind the new show plainly: “I looked out of the window and the world was ending. Stand-up comedy was the only thing that made sense to me.” The show digs into existential angst and political disquiet - his words - but he is equally clear that “it will be funnier than that sounds.” That’s the trick Kumar has always pulled off: genuine anger delivered with a lightness that stops it curdling into a lecture.
This follows his 2024/25 worldwide tour “Nish, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” which picked up awards and sold out dates across the globe. The Belfast show is the opening night of the new tour, which makes it a fairly special occasion - the first audience to see where this material lands.
Ulster Hall sits on Bedford Street in Belfast city centre, which makes it very easy to reach from all directions. The Europa Bus Centre on Great Victoria Street is a five-minute walk, and Great Victoria Street train station is practically next door - both Translink rail services and the Goldline coaches from Dublin stop there. Metro services on Donegall Square and Great Victoria Street cover most of the city. If you are driving, the city centre multi-storeys on Alfred Street and Clarence Street are the closest options; street parking on Bedford Street itself is limited on a weekday evening.
Bedford Street puts you right in the middle of the Cathedral Quarter and the Golden Mile, so there is plenty to do before or after the show - good restaurants along Lisburn Road, craft pubs in the Cathedral Quarter, or a walk along the Lagan. There is more to see in Belfast and across Co. Antrim.
