At Glenisk O'Connor Park · Arden Road, Tullamore, Co. Offaly
On the August bank holiday Monday, Offaly GAA clubs, camogie and LGFA clubs, cycling clubs and schools from across the county are combining forces for a single fundraising cycle in aid of both individual clubs and the County Board. Modelled on the once-popular Grand Canal run and walk fundraiser from a few years back, participants take on the cycle individually or as part of a relay team, seeking sponsorship through the Offaly GAA fundraising portal, with money raised split 50-50 between each participating club and the County Board.
Registration is open to GAA, camogie and LGFA clubs, cycling clubs and schools countywide, with entrants choosing to ride the full distance themselves or share it out across a relay team, riding at their own pace rather than as a timed race. The day is built around sponsorship rather than a fixed entry fee, with online donations tracked club by club so supporters can see how their own club is doing against its neighbours. It finishes back at Glenisk O’Connor Park in Tullamore, Offaly GAA’s home ground, with a barbecue and refreshments laid on for riders, volunteers and family who come out to cheer riders home. In the weeks before the bank holiday, organisers pushed for late sign-ups, with participants already registered and a meaningful sum raised before the day itself, and a final push planned to boost that total further.
O’Connor Park is on Arden Road in Tullamore, a short walk from the town centre, with parking nearby for those coming to see riders finish or to join the barbecue afterwards.
