At The Olderfleet Bar and Lounge · 2 Olderfleet Road, Larne, Co. Antrim
If you spent the 1990s and early 2000s dancing on tables and know every word to songs you’d rather not admit to loving, the Over 30s Coyote Ugly Day Party at the Olderfleet Bar and Lounge in Larne is made for you. This is a daytime party for the crowd who has a life to get back to - starting at 6pm on Saturday 4 July, it runs with a Coyote Ugly spirit: loud, hands-in-the-air fun built around pop, country and rock anthems that everyone in the room already knows. The over-30s format means you are surrounded by people who actually remember these songs the first time around.
The Coyote Ugly format takes its name from the cult film of the same name - a bar where inhibitions disappear and everyone ends up singing along. The Olderfleet’s Over 30s nights follow that same energy: a DJ set heavy on singalong anthems drawn from pop, country and rock, aimed squarely at the over-30s crowd who want a proper night out without a 22-year-old standing on their feet. The Glistrr listing confirms it as part of the regular Over 30s Club series the Olderfleet runs, which has built a following in the town.
The venue itself is one of Larne’s best-known spots. The Olderfleet Bar and Lounge sits on the seafront at 2 Olderfleet Road, on a site with origins going back to 1878 when it was built to serve travellers arriving by sea. The current bar has been in the McNeill family for more than 20 years and has been refurbished to a high standard. On Saturdays the late bar runs until 1am, so the 6pm start gives the night plenty of room to breathe. Tickets start from GBP 5.
Larne is about 20 miles north of Belfast. By car, take the A2 coastal road from Belfast or the M2 motorway north then the A8 - both routes take roughly 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The Olderfleet is right in the town centre on the seafront, close to the harbour, and street parking is available nearby.
By public transport, Translink operates a regular rail service from Belfast Great Victoria Street and Belfast Central to Larne Town station; the journey takes around 40 minutes. The bar is a short walk from the station.
Larne is the gateway to the Antrim Coast Road, one of the most scenic drives in Ireland - if you are travelling from the south and have time to spare before or after the party, the drive north towards Carnlough and Cushendall is worth doing while the evening light holds. There is more to see in Larne and across Co. Antrim.
