Pedro Sampaio at The Academy

At The Academy · 57 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1

Pedro Sampaio at The Academy Dublin

One of Brazil’s biggest pop exports lands in Dublin this summer, and the Academy on Middle Abbey Street is a good match for the chaos he promises. Pedro Sampaio has racked up over 13 billion streams and holds the unusual distinction of being the only Brazilian pop artist with two simultaneous Billboard Global chart entries. His Brazilian Chaos Tour is a Europe and North America run of headline dates, and Dublin on 2 July is among them - a high-energy, bass-heavy night built around funk carioca, the genre that originated in Rio’s baile funk scene and has spent the last few years becoming genuinely global. Fans of Brazilian pop, Latin dance music, or simply big, unapologetic club-style shows will find this one worth the ticket.

What to expect

Sampaio performs a hybrid of live vocals and DJ-driven production, blending funk carioca with pop and electronic sounds in a way that keeps the floor moving from the first track. His catalogue is enormous - hits like Dançarina, POCPOC, JETSKI and CAVALINHO have collectively reached billions of plays, and the setlist on this tour has drawn strong responses across earlier European stops. The show is designed for a crowd that wants to dance rather than stand, so expect the main floor of the Academy to be active all night. The Academy itself opened in 2007 and has established itself as one of the more reliable mid-size rooms in the city, with a main room capacity around 800 and a layout that works well for floor-filling international acts. The show was noted as high-demand quickly after tickets went on sale.

Getting there

The Academy sits on Middle Abbey Street in Dublin 1, making it one of the easiest venues in the city to reach without a car. O’Connell Street is less than two minutes’ walk away, where a large number of Dublin Bus routes stop throughout the evening. The Jervis Luas stop on the Red Line is around five minutes on foot and connects directly to Heuston Station and the broader rail network. If you are driving in from outside the city, the NCP carpark on Cathal Brugha Street is the closest option, though evening rates in the city centre apply and public transport is genuinely easier for a late-night departure.

While you’re in Dublin

Dublin 1 has plenty worth arriving early for - the riverfront along the quays, the shops and cafes on Henry Street, and a few good pre-show options on Middle Abbey Street itself. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
