What to Expect

The Princess Proms is a touring family concert built around live vocal and orchestral performances of songs from animated films, with a programme drawing on Moana, Frozen, Wicked, Aladdin and other titles that a lot of the audience will already know by heart. It is aimed squarely at families with young children, staged as a matinee rather than an evening show, with singers performing the songs in costume or concert dress against a live or backing arrangement rather than a straight film screening with music. Expect a run time built for a young audience’s attention span, sing along moments on the best known choruses, and a atmosphere closer to a themed concert than a formal classical recital, even though the material is performed with a full vocal and orchestral treatment. Leisureland’s theatre space in Salthill is a proper seated venue with good sightlines, which suits this kind of show better than a standing room.

Getting There

Galway city is well connected from around the country, with Irish Rail running direct services from Dublin Heuston in around two hours fifteen minutes and Bus Eireann and Citylink both running frequent coaches from Dublin, Limerick and Cork. From the city centre, Leisureland is on Rockbarton Road in Salthill, on Galway’s beachfront promenade, roughly 2km west of the centre. It is an easy drive or local bus ride from town, with ample on site parking, and Salthill’s promenade and beach are worth combining with the show for a full family day out.
