At Wexford Arts Centre · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford
Wexford Arts Centre runs a series of hands-on printmaking workshops across August and into early September, giving adults of all abilities a chance to work directly with traditional and contemporary print techniques. If you have never tried printmaking before, these sessions are a good entry point - the workshops are designed for beginners as well as those with some experience, and all materials and tools are provided. You go home with finished prints you made yourself.
The workshops cover a range of printmaking methods: screen printing, linocut, relief printing, and etching are among the techniques on the programme. Each session is led by an experienced printmaker, and class sizes are kept small so there is time for proper guidance. You work through the process from transferring an image or design onto a block or screen, inking up, and pulling a print - the satisfaction of lifting a sheet and seeing the result is a large part of why people keep coming back to it.
Wexford Arts Centre has been running visual arts programmes for adults and children since 1974, and a major €3 million refurbishment completed in October 2022 added new gallery and workshop spaces purpose-built for this kind of work. The building itself is worth noting - a handsome neoclassical structure on High Street, originally built in 1776 as a corn exchange, with an assembly room that once hosted Frederick Douglass and John Wesley. The workshops take place in the newer wing; the old fabric of the building is all around you.
Pre-booking is recommended as places are limited. Contact the centre directly to check exact session dates, times, and prices for August and September, as individual workshops may vary.
