Roundstone Country Market

At Tennis Court beside Roundstone Hall · Roundstone, Co. Galway

Roundstone country market stalls in Connemara

What to Expect

Roundstone Country Market takes over the tennis court beside Roundstone Hall every Sunday through the summer season, in one of Connemara’s most scenic seaside villages. The produce side covers freshly caught fish straight off the local boats, organic fruit and vegetables, homemade cheeses and freshly baked breads and pastries, while the craft tables carry handmade items, framed photographs, original artwork and gifts made by people living in the area. On the food-to-eat side there are usually fresh crepes, fudge, coffee and Irish ice cream, which makes it as much a Sunday outing as a shopping trip. Roundstone itself sits on Bertraghboy Bay with the Twelve Bens mountains as a backdrop, and is known well beyond Galway as the home of Roundstone Musical Instruments, the traditional bodhrán-making workshop that draws visitors to the village on its own. The market’s small scale and seaside setting make it feel closer to a village fete than a commercial market, and it is genuinely weather- and season-dependent, running through the warmer months rather than year-round. The drive in from Galway via Cashel and Toombeola, or the inland route through Oughterard and Clifden, is itself one of the more scenic approaches in Connemara, so many visitors treat the market as one stop on a longer coastal loop rather than a standalone destination.
