Seacraft Wreath workshop

At North Mayo Heritage Centre · Enniscoe, Castlehill, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo

Seacraft wreath workshop

Spend a summer morning making something with your hands on the shores of Lough Conn. This three-hour wreath workshop at the North Mayo Heritage Centre in Enniscoe invites you to work with materials foraged from the Irish seashore - seaweed, driftwood, shells, sea grasses - and shape them into a wreath to bring home. It is a genuinely practical session rather than a craft fair demonstration, and it suits adults looking for something calming and creative in a setting that earns its keep on its own merits.

What to expect

The workshop runs from 11am to 2pm, giving you a full three hours to work through the process without feeling rushed. You will be using materials gathered from the Atlantic coastline - the raw stuff of the Irish shore - to build a wreath using techniques rooted in traditional Irish craft. The North Mayo Heritage Centre team lead the session within the historic Enniscoe Estate, a mature landscape estate beside Lough Conn that has held An Taisce Green Flag recognition since 2019. The estate gardens and woodland walks form the backdrop. All materials are provided and the event is free to attend, though booking through the centre is required to secure your place.

Getting there

Crossmolina sits on the N59 about 10km west of Ballina, and Enniscoe itself is roughly 3km south of the town on the R315 road towards Lahardane. Coming from Dublin, the quickest route is the M4 and N5 to Castlebar, then north on the N58 to Crossmolina - around three hours from the capital. From Galway, the N17 to Tuam and then the N83 and N5 through Swinford is the most direct way, taking around two and a half hours. Bus Eireann serves Ballina from Dublin and Galway, and from Ballina you would need a taxi or a hire car for the final stretch to Enniscoe. There is parking on site at the heritage centre.

While you’re in Crossmolina

The town itself sits on the River Deel at the northern end of Lough Conn, one of the great brown trout loughs of the west of Ireland. The area rewards a slower pace - the lough, the mountain, the drive around the shore to Pontoon. There is more to see in Crossmolina and across Co. Mayo.
