At The Ardhowen Theatre · 97 Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 6HN
The Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen runs an eight week set dancing course with Brenda Murphy, starting on Tuesday, 8 September 2026 at 7pm and continuing weekly on Tuesday evenings. The course costs GBP 45 for all eight weeks and is open to beginners as well as intermediate and advanced dancers, making it one of the few structured, term-length set dancing courses running in Fermanagh rather than a single drop-in ceili night.
Set dancing is a style of Irish social dance built from figures and battering steps performed by sets of four couples arranged in a square, with roots in nineteenth-century quadrilles that were reshaped into a distinctly Irish form and kept alive through clubs and county fleadhanna across the country. Brenda Murphy leads the class through the steps and figures used in the standard repertoire of sets, building up week by week so that complete beginners who join at the start of the course can follow the same figures as more experienced dancers by the later weeks. Classes run in the evening at the Ardhowen, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s main arts venue in Enniskillen, which also hosts the venue’s regular theatre, comedy and music programme in its main auditorium on other nights. No partner or previous dancing experience is required to book a place, and the class is suitable for anyone who wants to learn from scratch alongside those returning to it.
The Ardhowen is on the Dublin Road on the southern edge of Enniskillen, close to Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, with its own car park on site.
Enniskillen town centre is a short drive or bus ride away, and it is worth checking the rest of the Ardhowen’s fixture list, from comedy nights to musical theatre, for the same evening. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
