STARCAMP Summer Camp - Week 3

At Longford-Drumlish Community Sports Hub · Drumlish, Co. Longford

STARCAMP summer camp for kids

STARCAMP is one of Ireland’s best-known summer programmes for primary-school children, and Week 3 of their Longford run lands at the Drumlish Community Sports Hub in mid-July. If you have a child aged 4 to 12 who needs something purposeful to do during the school holidays - something that involves actual doing rather than screens - this is a solid choice. The programme is designed to build confidence and self-esteem through performance and play, and it has a loyal following with families who come back year after year.

What to expect

The camp splits children into two programmes. STARCAMP covers ages 4-8 (Junior Infants to 2nd Class) and fills the week with singing, dancing, treasure hunts, magic shows, and superhero themes - plus the teddy bear picnic that younger children tend to remember long after the week is done. STARCREW takes over for ages 8-12 (3rd to 6th Class), shifting towards group performances, outdoor activities, and games built around teamwork and leadership.

The 2026 theme is circus, which runs through both programmes and gives the end-of-week show a particular energy. Activities across the week include music, drama, magic, comedy, news and weather reporting, arts and crafts, and outdoor games - enough variety that most children find at least one thing they are genuinely good at.

Week 3 runs Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July, 9:00am to 2:00pm each day, with an early drop-off available from 8:45am. The venue is the Longford-Drumlish Community Sports Hub, a modern community facility with a large hall and Astro turf - well suited to the range of activities the programme involves.

Getting there

Drumlish sits on the N4 Dublin-Sligo road, roughly 15 minutes north of Longford town. By car from Dublin, it is about 90 minutes via the N4 - take the Drumlish exit and the Sports Hub is signposted from there (Eircode N39V8N9). Bus Eireann runs services along the N4 corridor between Dublin and Sligo, with a stop in the Drumlish area; check the Bus Eireann journey planner for current timetables if you are travelling without a car. Parking at the Sports Hub is generally straightforward, with space on-site for drop-off and collection.

While you’re in Drumlish

The village is quiet during the week, which suits the camp format - children are inside and busy, and parents can make use of the time in town. Drumlish itself has an old mill just off the Arva road, a restored 200-year-old building that is worth a slow drive past, and the Land War Memorial in the village marks a significant moment in 19th-century Irish history. There is more to see in Drumlish and across Co. Longford.
