What to Expect

O’Connell’s Bar on Eyre Square hosts this one-off Schweppes-branded tasting evening, built around two Schweppes cocktails and a run of bar snacks included in the ticket price. A bartender leads a short demonstration on building your own Schweppes cocktail, so it is part tasting session and part hands-on class rather than a straightforward drinks night. A DJ plays through the evening with a summer playlist, and Schweppes runs a raffle during the night with festival tickets and horse-racing event tickets as prizes, alongside branded giveaways such as sunglasses and bucket hats. It is pitched as a sociable, three-hour session rather than a sit-down tasting, with the organisers keen on people mixing and chatting between the demonstration and the DJ set. As with any bar-hosted spirits and mixer event in Ireland, it is restricted to over-18s, and photography and filming will take place during the night for Schweppes’ own promotional use, so it is worth knowing that going in. Dietary requirements can be flagged in advance and the organisers say they will accommodate where possible. O’Connell’s itself is one of the long-standing bars directly on Eyre Square in the city centre, making it an easy stop for anyone already out in town that evening.

Getting There

O’Connell’s Bar is directly on Eyre Square in the centre of Galway city, within easy walking distance of Ceannt Station, train and bus, and every city-centre car park. It is one of the most central bar addresses in Galway, so there is no need to drive.
