At Gaelscoil Thomais Daibhis · Mallow, Co. Cork
A week of hands-on technology learning for children in Mallow, TechKidz Coding and Technology Summer Camp gives kids aged 7-14 a proper introduction to coding, electronics, robotics, and digital creation - no screens-and-YouTube passivity here. The five-day camp runs at Gaelscoil Thomáis Dáibhís from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July 2026, and is run by TechKidz Ireland, one of the longer-established summer tech camp providers in the country. It suits children who are curious about how things work, complete beginners included - no prior coding experience is expected or needed.
Each day runs from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with a morning snack break and a packed lunch break built in. Children rotate through a range of activities across the week. Coding sessions use Scratch, a block-based language where kids build their own animations and playable games. Electronics projects let them wire up a working light switch, alarm, or doorbell. Robotics sessions use VEX robots - children program them and race them around a track. Engineering challenges involve building and load-testing bridges in teams.
For 2026, TechKidz has added four new activities: Makey Makey (turning everyday objects into controllers), Kodu Game Lab (3D game design), Kitronik Lab electronics kits, and Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. Children are assigned to groups before the week starts - the group allocation comes by email, so look out for that.
A few practical notes: pack a snack and a packed lunch, and leave peanut products at home (allergies in the group). A USB stick is useful for taking home the week’s digital work; TechKidz branded ones are available on site for €10. Mobile phones are allowed in bags but should stay switched off during the day.
Mallow sits on the N20 about 32 km north of Cork City, and is one of the best-connected towns in north Cork. By car from Cork City the drive is around 30-35 minutes; from Limerick it is about an hour south on the same road. Mallow has a mainline rail station on the Cork to Dublin line, with regular InterCity services from Cork Kent and connections from Dublin Heuston. Local Bus Éireann services also link Mallow to surrounding towns. Gaelscoil Thomáis Dáibhís is on the Carhookeal side of town; on-street parking is generally available in the area.
Dropping children off and collecting them gives parents a useful window in Mallow itself - the town has a good main street for a coffee or a browse, and the Blackwater Valley walking trails are nearby for those with a couple of hours to fill. There is more to see in Mallow and across Co. Cork.
