At The Garage Theatre · Monaghan Education Campus, Armagh Road, Monaghan, Co. Monaghan
Cash Returns bring their tribute show The Man in Black to the Garage Theatre on Friday, 23 October 2026, at 8pm, built around the music and story of Johnny Cash and June Carter. JP Mac plays Johnny Cash and Karen Lyttle plays June Carter, backed by a full band and a group of backing vocalists billed as the Carter Sisters.
The show works through the pair’s best-known songs and duets, with the Garage Theatre’s own listing naming Jackson, Ring of Fire, Hurt and Ghost Riders in the Sky among the material covered. Beyond the individual songs, the production sets out to recreate the atmosphere of two specific settings from Cash’s career, the Grand Ole Opry and his famous prison concerts, so expect some of the theatrical framing around the songs rather than a straight run through a setlist. Cash Returns is described by the venue as multi award winning, and the pairing of a Cash tribute with a June Carter performer for the duet numbers is what sets this apart from a standard solo Johnny Cash tribute act, since duets like Jackson only work with two singers trading lines. At EUR 30, it is priced at the same level as the Garage Theatre’s other big Saturday-slot tribute nights, reflecting the full band and two lead performers on stage.
The Garage Theatre is part of the Monaghan Education Campus on the Armagh Road, on the edge of Monaghan town, with its own car park on site.
Monaghan town’s Diamond and Market Square are a short drive from the theatre for a meal or a drink before the show. There is more to see in Monaghan and across Co. Monaghan.
