Tiny Traders Village Market turns the open ground around the Spanish Arch into a market for three days running, Friday through Sunday, rather than the single-day format most Galway markets use. Over 70 artisans and rotating traders take part across the run, covering local food, art, handmade crafts, vintage clothing and homeware, antiques and cosmetics, so the exact mix of stalls on any given day depends on who is scheduled in. It is organised as a community of independent makers, bakers, chefs and performers rather than a single trading company, which gives it a more festival-like feel than a conventional market, helped by the setting: the Spanish Arch is one of Galway’s best-known landmarks, a surviving stretch of the 16th-century city walls extended to protect the old harbour, right where the River Corrib meets Galway Bay beside the Claddagh. The organisers have talked about expanding the concept to Salthill and Eyre Square, so it is worth checking current listings in case a satellite version is running alongside the main Spanish Arch market on a given weekend. Sitting at the edge of the Latin Quarter, the market is within easy reach of Galway’s densest cluster of independent shops, cafes and pubs, which makes it a natural stop to build a full afternoon around rather than a quick browse on its own.
The Spanish Arch is on the Long Walk beside the Claddagh, a five to ten minute walk from Eyre Square and Shop Street through the city centre, and immediately next to the Galway City Museum. There is no dedicated market car park given the city-centre location, but the Jury’s, Fairgreen and Eyre Square multi-storey car parks are all within easy walking distance.
