Tramore Races: SETU Students Day

Tramore Racecourse runs its SETU Students Day on Thursday, 8 October 2026, one of eleven fixtures on the course’s racing calendar for the year and the one built specifically around discounted admission for students from South East Technological University and beyond. It is a lower-key card than the August Festival, but it keeps the same afternoon racing format and the same seaside course.

What to expect

The card itself is a standard afternoon fixture on the Tramore track, a tight, undulating course that rewards horses who handle the track’s climbs well, so the racing tends to be competitive even outside the bigger festival dates. What sets the day apart is the pricing and atmosphere, aimed squarely at students with cheaper admission than a normal race day, and a livelier, more social crowd around the bars and parade ring than a typical midweek meeting. It is a popular introduction to racing for people who have never been to a track before, low stakes for a first visit, with enough of a crowd to make the day feel like an event without the scale of the August Festival. Expect the usual on-course betting ring, food and drink options, and a younger crowd than most Tramore fixtures.

Getting there

Tramore is about 13km south of Waterford city, roughly 15 minutes by road via the R675, with Suirway and Bus Eireann services running between the city and the town. The racecourse is on the edge of Tramore, an easy walk from the town centre and its bus stops.
