Truagh Gaels host Latton O’Rahilly’s in a quarter-final of the 2026 Monaghan Hurling Championship at St Mellan’s Park, Lisseagh, on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, throwing in at 6:45pm. Hurling is played by only a handful of Monaghan clubs, so a home quarter-final at Truagh’s own ground is a rare enough fixture for anyone who wants to see the game played in the county.
Truagh Gaels, founded in 1958 out of the Carrickroe and Clara ends of the parish, field adult hurling teams alongside their football and ladies football sides, running through the Senior Hurling League earlier in the season before this knockout stage. Latton O’Rahilly’s, based further south near Ballybay, are better known for football, having won Monaghan Senior Football Championship titles in 1930, 2005, 2008 and 2011, but field hurlers too when the code needs a full quarter-final draw. A straight knockout means the loser is out of the championship, so expect a harder edge than a league round robin game, with both sides naming their strongest available panel. As with all club fixtures, throw in time and referee are only confirmed by the county board close to the date, so it is worth checking the club’s own fixtures page in the days beforehand for any change.
St Mellan’s Park is in Lisseagh, just outside Emyvale village in north Monaghan, reached by local roads off the N2; there is parking at the grounds for match day.
