Twilight Tours at Castle Coole

At Castle Coole · Castle Coole, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 6JY

Castle Coole mansion lit at dusk near Enniskillen

Castle Coole hosts a Twilight Tour on Friday, 28 August 2026, an evening visit to the National Trust mansion outside Enniskillen that runs from 7pm to 10pm. Guests are met at the front door and taken through the house by staff in Victorian-era costume, with a drinks reception in the entrance hall before a tour of the formal rooms and the historic basement kitchen, finishing with wine and cheese. The tour is priced at GBP 27.50 per person and is intended for ages 12 and up.

What to expect

Castle Coole is a neoclassical mansion designed by the architect James Wyatt for the Belmore family and completed at the end of the eighteenth century, faced in Portland stone shipped in by barge from England. The National Trust has cared for the house since the 1950s and opens it for a small number of evening tours each year outside its normal daytime hours, when the rooms are lit differently and the house is otherwise empty of day visitors. On this date, guests are met at the door by costumed “ladies of the Victorian era,” move through the state rooms as a group, and finish in the basement kitchen, one of the better-preserved servants’ work areas on any National Trust property in Northern Ireland, before returning upstairs for wine, cheese and soft drinks. Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended, since part of the route goes outside between rooms, and there are stairs inside the mansion.

Getting there

Castle Coole is just south of Enniskillen town centre, off the Enniskillen to Belfast road, with its own car park inside the demesne gates. Enniskillen is served by Translink Ulsterbus services from Belfast and by Bus Éireann coaches from the Republic, with the castle grounds a short taxi ride from the town centre bus station.

While you’re in Enniskillen

Castle Coole’s demesne is within walking distance of Enniskillen town centre along a tree-lined avenue, and the grounds are open for walking year-round even on days without a house tour. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
