At Fibber Magees · 80 Parnell Street, Dublin 1
Four heavy acts take the stage at Fibber Magees on Parnell Street in September, with Unnatural Order and Modes headlining a night that also features If It Bleeds and Neon Empire in support. This is the kind of bill that draws a genuinely mixed crowd - devoted fans of each act alongside curious regulars who come to Fibber’s because they know the room always delivers. If you enjoy metal, hard rock, or any of the heavier genres, a four-band ticket from €11.85 is one of the better-value nights out Dublin has to offer.
Fibber Magees is Dublin’s best-known rock and metal venue, and the upstairs stage on Parnell Street has been a proving ground for Irish and international heavy acts for years. The room is compact enough that there is no bad spot, and the crowd tends to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being hostile. Support acts If It Bleeds and Neon Empire open the night, giving you reason to be in early rather than missing the first half. Unnatural Order and Modes close out the bill. With doors at 7:30pm and four bands to get through, pace yourself - this is a proper full evening rather than a short set. The bar runs late and the smoking area outside gives you somewhere to breathe between sets.
Fibber Magees is on Parnell Street in Dublin 1, a short walk north of O’Connell Street and the city centre. The venue is easily reached on foot from most of the north inner city. If you are coming by Luas, the Red Line stops at Abbey Street (about a 10-minute walk). Dublin Bus routes run along O’Connell Street and Parnell Street from all directions. Driving into Dublin 1 on a Saturday night is possible but car parking is limited and paid; the Q-Park on Parnell Square West is the closest option. Cycling is practical - there are bike stands on Parnell Street - and taxis are plentiful on O’Connell Street after the show.
Parnell Street itself has a good stretch of late-night restaurants and bars, so it is easy to eat well before heading to the gig. The Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square is just around the corner if you want a quiet moment before the noise starts. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
