Valley Parkrun Newtownabbey - Weekly Saturday 5k

What to Expect

Valley parkrun is a free weekly 5k community event held every Saturday at 9.30am at Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey. Like every parkrun across the UK and Ireland, the whole event is planned, set up and run by local volunteers, and finishes with the traditional post-run coffee and chat. Participants can walk, jog or run at their own pace - there is no time limit and no pressure to be fast, and spectators and dog walkers (on short leads) are always welcome along the route. The event is suitable for complete beginners right through to experienced club runners, and many people use it as a regular fitness habit rather than a one-off event.

Good to Know

• Every Saturday at 9.30am, year-round, weather permitting (only cancelled in exceptional conditions such as ice).
• Venue: Valley Leisure Centre, 40 Church Road, Newtownabbey, BT36 7LJ.
• Free to attend, but a one-time registration at parkrun.org.uk is required before your first run - print or save your barcode to be scanned for a time.
• All abilities and ages welcome; junior parkrun events for 4 to 14 year olds run separately on Sunday mornings at some locations.
• Volunteering roles (marshalling, barcode scanning, finish tokens) are always needed and can be picked up as often or as little as you like - email valley@parkrun.com to get involved.
• First-timers’ briefings are usually given a few minutes before the 9.30am start.

Getting There

Valley Leisure Centre is on Church Road, Newtownabbey, just off the Doagh Road, with car parking on site. Regular Translink Metro bus services connect Newtownabbey town centre to Belfast city centre, and the venue is a short walk from local bus stops on the Doagh Road.
