The Wellermen at Whelan's

At Whelan's · 25 Wexford Street, Dublin 2

The Wellermen promotional photo for their 2026 tour

The Wellermen built their following on sea shanties - specifically their version of Wellerman, which caught fire in early 2021 and made maritime folk singing briefly unavoidable on every platform going. What could have stayed a viral footnote became something more solid: a debut album, a touring band, and an audience that genuinely wanted more. Their show at Whelan’s on 10 July 2026 is part of The Wellermen Live 2026 tour, celebrating that album with a full headline set - no support acts, just the band and their harmonies for the whole evening.

This is a good fit for Whelan’s. The room, around 400 capacity and standing, with a stage low enough that you can read the performers’ faces, suits vocal groups well. There is nowhere to hide in a room that small, and The Wellermen do not need to.

What to expect

The Wellermen perform a cappella-led sets drawing on the British and Atlantic maritime folk tradition, built around the kind of layered harmonies that sound most powerful in a room where you can feel the bass notes. The 10 July set runs from 8:00pm to approximately 10:45pm - a proper evening of music rather than a short headline slot. Material spans the debut album alongside Wellerman and the other songs that drove the 2021 moment. General admission standing only, so arriving before doors gives you the best spot at the front.

Getting there

Whelan’s sits at 25 Wexford Street in Dublin 2, a few minutes south of the city centre. The nearest LUAS stop is Harcourt Street on the Green Line, roughly five minutes on foot. Multiple Dublin Bus routes stop on South Great George’s Street, which runs parallel to Wexford Street. St Stephen’s Green is about a ten-minute walk. There is no dedicated parking at the venue; the Camden Street and Montague Street area has some on-street parking, though driving into that part of Dublin on a Friday night is slow work - public transport is the sensible call.

While you’re in Dublin

Wexford Street runs into Camden Street, which connects north to the city centre and south into Portobello and Rathmines - a good stretch of the city for a pre-show dinner or a drink afterwards. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
