Westmeath County Council’s Part VIII public consultation on a proposed 50-home development at Harbour Road, Mullingar closes at 4pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026. The council opened the consultation on 18 July 2026, giving residents a six-week window to review the plans and lodge a formal submission before the scheme moves to the next stage.
The proposal covers a mix of housing types on the site, including universal design bungalows, two-storey terraced and semi-detached houses, three-storey terraces, and age-friendly apartments, along with associated site works including an ESB substation. Access is planned via Harbour Road, with pedestrian access also provided to Longford Road and Harbour Street. Plans and particulars can be inspected in person at Aras an Chontae in Mullingar and at Athlone Civic Centre, both weekdays from 9:30am to 4pm, as well as online through the council’s consultation portal. Submissions addressing the proper planning and sustainable development of the area can be made online or by post to the Planning Department, and the council asks that they be labelled “LAM7-2026 Harbour Road, Mullingar” with the sender’s name, address and any organisation given. Submissions become part of the public record and are shared with relevant departments for consideration.
Aras an Chontae is on Mount Street in Mullingar town centre; Athlone Civic Centre is on Church Street in Athlone. Both offices are open to the public during standard office hours for anyone who wants to view the plans in person rather than online.
Harbour Road sits close to the Royal Canal harbour on the edge of Mullingar town, an area that has seen a steady run of housing schemes come through planning in recent years. There is more to see in Mullingar and across Co. Westmeath.
