Dead Centre Brewing runs guided tours of its working craft brewery on Custume Pier in Athlone, the first craft brewery to open in Westmeath in almost two hundred years. Tours are fully guided, cover the brewing process from ingredients through fermentation and packaging, and finish with a tasting of the brewery’s own beers, in a taproom that opens onto decking over the River Shannon.
A tour runs to roughly an hour including the tasting at the end, walking guests through how Dead Centre’s beers are actually made on site, from the copper clad brewing tanks to the packaging line. The core range includes a Maroon Oatmeal IPA brewed using Kilbeggan-grown organic oats and a Seeking Sunshine Pale Ale, both of which typically feature in the tasting. Tours are guided throughout rather than self led, and the brewery accommodates both drop-in visitors on tour days and private group bookings, with a minimum of four and a maximum of twelve for private tours. Children are welcome, with under-10s admitted free and 10 to 17 year olds paying a reduced rate that includes a soft drink, non-alcoholic options are available at the bar for anyone not drinking.
