Westmeath Junior 1 Football Championship

The Westmeath Junior 1 Football Championship is the county’s third tier of club football, sitting below the senior and intermediate grades. Its group stage runs through August, with round 2 fixtures spread across Friday 7, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August 2026 in Sections A and B. Six clubs are in action across six different grounds, from Mullingar to Athlone and out to The Downs.

What to expect

Confirmed round 2 fixtures: St Loman’s Mullingar v Coralstown-Kinnegad at Dovida Lakepoint Park (7:30pm) and Kilbeggan Shamrocks v Mullingar Shamrocks at Rochfortbridge (7:30pm), both Friday 7 August; Bunbrosna v St Joseph’s at Ballinacargy (5:30pm) and Athlone v Moate All Whites at Athlone GAA (6:00pm), both Saturday 8 August; then Na Dúnta v Killucan at The Downs (11:00am) and St Pauls v Ballynacargy at Bunbrosna GAA (2:00pm) on Sunday 9 August. This is competitive, well-attended club football just below the top two grades, with each club fielding a settled, experienced junior panel. Expect a village-ground atmosphere, gate admission and a strong local following from the competing parishes. The group stage continues weekly through August as sections are completed ahead of the knockout rounds.

Getting there

Grounds are spread right across the county: Dovida Lakepoint Park is on the edge of Mullingar town, Athlone GAA is close to the town centre, and The Downs, Ballinacargy, Bunbrosna and Rochfortbridge are all signposted from the regional roads around Mullingar. Each ground has car parking on site.
