Mullingar Arts Centre’s autumn programme closes out with a five-night run of Mel Brooks’s The Producers, from Tuesday, 20 to Saturday, 24 October 2026. The musical follows a washed-up Broadway producer and a nervous accountant who scheme to get rich by staging the worst show they can find, a deliberately tasteless flop called Springtime for Hitler, only for the plan to backfire spectacularly when the show becomes a hit.
The Producers is one of the most successful stage musicals of the last thirty years, built on the 1968 Mel Brooks film of the same name, and it leans hard into farce, big chorus numbers and knowingly outrageous comedy. Local musical theatre productions of the show call for a large cast and full chorus, tapping showgirls, an over-the-top Broadway pastiche and one of musical theatre’s most talked-about numbers in “Springtime for Hitler”. Expect a broader, more spectacle-driven evening than the straight dramas earlier in the arts centre’s autumn season, with a live band and full scene changes across the five performances. The run gives local audiences a chance to see a West End and Broadway staple performed close to home in the 407-seat main house.
Mullingar Arts Centre is on Lower Mount Street in Mullingar town centre, a short walk from the Market Square. Mullingar railway station, on the Dublin to Sligo Irish Rail line, and the town’s main bus stops on the Dublin and Athlone routes are both close by, with street parking available nearby.
