At Various Venues · County Wexford
Club hurling at its most competitive and most local. The Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship is the county’s second-tier club competition, sitting directly below the senior grade and above the junior ranks. For the clubs involved - twelve of them in recent years - this is a chance at county glory, a Leinster campaign, and potentially an All-Ireland run. For supporters, it is a summer of tight, high-stakes games played out at grounds across Co. Wexford, where every parish puts its hurling reputation on the line. If you want to see the sport at close range, without the distance that comes with big senior intercounty days, this is exactly the right place to be.
The championship runs from July through August and into the autumn, with a group stage giving way to knockout rounds and ultimately a county final, historically played at Innovate Wexford Park. Twelve clubs compete, drawn from parishes across the county. The standard is high - these are clubs that have come close to or recently dropped from senior, and the hurling reflects that. Ferns St Aidan’s, HWH-Bunclody and Oylegate-Glenbrien are among the clubs with the strongest track records in this grade, though any given summer can throw up a new contender. Group matches tend to be played at club grounds across the county, which means a different backdrop for each fixture - from tight rural pitches to bigger club facilities with proper stands. The 2025 final went the way of Fethard St Mogue’s over Cloughbawn, so form is genuinely open. Check wexford.gaa.ie for the full fixture list and confirmed match times, as kick-offs and venues vary across the run of the championship.
