At Echelon Park · Aughrim, Co. Wicklow
Baltinglass open the defence of their Wicklow Senior Football Championship title against near neighbours Kiltegan at Echelon Park, Aughrim, on Saturday, 1 August 2026. Baltinglass beat Carnew Emmets 1-20 to 0-15 in last October’s final to take a 24th county title, and this group-stage meeting with a fellow West Wicklow club is their first real test of the new campaign in the county’s top club football competition.
The Wicklow Senior Football Championship is run as a group stage followed by knockout rounds, with the final due back at Echelon Park in October. Baltinglass go into this game as favourites on paper, but Kiltegan have pushed the county’s bigger football clubs close in recent seasons and have played championship football at Aughrim themselves, so they will not be overawed by the occasion. Expect a physical, tightly-fought contest between two clubs separated by only a few kilometres of road outside Baltinglass town, the kind of local fixture that pulls a strong crowd from both parishes rather than a neutral audience. Echelon Park is Wicklow GAA’s county grounds, with a covered stand, floodlights and a proper playing surface, so conditions for a 7:30pm summer throw-in should be good. Group results this month decide seeding for the knockout stages later in the year, so both sides will want to start well.
Echelon Park sits on the edge of Aughrim village just off the R747, with parking available at the grounds on match nights. Aughrim is around 15 minutes from Rathdrum and 20 minutes from Baltinglass by car. There is no direct rail service into the village, so driving is the practical option for anyone travelling to this fixture.
Aughrim is a small Ow valley village best known locally as the home of Wicklow GAA’s county grounds, and it gets busy on club championship nights through the summer. There is more to see in Aughrim and across Co. Wicklow.
