Glenealy travel to Echelon Park to face St Patrick’s in Round 1 of the Wicklow Senior Hurling Championship on Friday, 24 July 2026, the top tier of hurling in the county and the competition every Wicklow hurling club wants to win. St Patrick’s are the county town side and one of the more consistent forces in Wicklow hurling in recent years, while Glenealy have built a reputation as tough opposition on their day. A round 1 championship match sets the tone for the summer.
Senior club hurling in Wicklow does not get the coverage of the inter-county game, but the standard on show at Echelon Park is high, and a championship atmosphere is different from a league night, with both panels naming strongest teams and every ball contested hard. Echelon Park is Wicklow GAA’s county grounds in Aughrim, a proper stand-and-terrace venue used for county team games as well as club finals, so there is space for a good crowd without ever feeling empty. Expect physical exchanges around midfield, sharp scoring from play and placed balls, and vocal support from both clubs lining the wire. This is Round 1 of the championship campaign, the game that sets the tone for both clubs’ summer, with the winners taking a first step toward the later rounds and eventually the county final in the autumn.
Aughrim is a small village in south Wicklow with no train station of its own; Rathdrum and Arklow are the nearest railway stops, both around twenty minutes away by car. There is no scheduled bus service directly to Echelon Park on match nights, so most supporters travel by car, with parking available at the grounds.
