On the same Saturday The Weeknd plays Croke Park on his After Hours Til Dawn tour, Wigwam runs an unofficial tribute club night built entirely around his back catalogue. Organisers are explicit that this is a fan-run afterparty rather than an official tour event - The Weeknd himself will not be in attendance and the night has no affiliation with the tour promoters - but for anyone leaving the stadium wanting to keep the night going, it is timed and pitched exactly for that crowd. Resident DJs work through his discography from the early mixtapes through to the newest releases, mixed in with late-night R&B, hip-hop and trap. Doors open at 11pm, giving concertgoers enough time to make the walk or Luas journey across the city after the show, and the night runs through to 3am.
Wigwam’s basement space suits this kind of high-energy, bass-heavy set, and its city centre location on Middle Abbey Street makes it one of the more realistic afterparty options for anyone coming from Croke Park without wanting to travel far.
Wigwam is on Middle Abbey Street, a short walk from O’Connell Street. The Luas Red Line stops at Abbey Street directly outside, making it a straightforward onward journey from Croke Park via the Luas or a short taxi. Croke Park empties out fast after a big stadium show, so expect the surrounding roads and Luas platforms to be busy for the first while after the concert finishes, before things settle down closer to 11pm.
Middle Abbey Street is in the heart of the city centre, close to O’Connell Street and the river, with Temple Bar and the Ha’Penny Bridge a short walk away if you want to explore further either side of the night. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
