Amgen Irish Open 2026 - Doonbeg

At Trump International Golf Links and Hotel · Doonbeg, Co. Clare

Golfers playing at Trump International Golf Links, Doonbeg, Co. Clare

One of European golf’s most celebrated tournaments lands on the Wild Atlantic Way for the first time in September 2026, when the Amgen Irish Open comes to Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, Co. Clare. This is a genuine landmark - the first Irish Open ever held at this venue, and one of the biggest sporting events to hit the west of Ireland in years. Whether you follow the DP World Tour closely or simply enjoy a good day out with world-class sport, live music and Atlantic coastal scenery, this is worth the trip.

What to expect

The competitive rounds run Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September, with the Pro-Am kicking things off on Wednesday 9 September. The course itself is exceptional: 16 of its 18 holes look out over the Atlantic, with the crashing waves audible as the world’s top professionals navigate a single loop through massive dunes along Doughmore Beach. The closing green sits inside a natural amphitheatre, which makes for electric viewing on the final afternoon.

It is not purely a golf gallery, either. Irish band Keywest headlines the main stage, and daily entertainment in the fan zones, food trucks scattered across the grounds and a festival-like atmosphere give the week an energy well beyond the fairways. Premium hospitality is available if you want the full experience - the Green on 18 package puts you on a greenside terrace beside the last hole with a VIP bar and lunch.

Getting there

Doonbeg sits on the west Clare coast, roughly 50km south-west of Ennis. From Ennis, take the N68 towards Kilrush and follow signs for Doonbeg via Kilmihil. From Limerick, allow around 75 minutes. There is no direct public bus service to the village, so most people drive or arrange a group transfer. Shuttle buses from designated park-and-ride locations are expected to operate during event week - check the DP World Tour website for confirmed pick-up points. On weekend rounds, traffic into Doonbeg builds quickly, so arriving early is a good idea.

While you’re in Doonbeg

Doonbeg is a small Atlantic village with a proper local pub and a long beach that is largely deserted outside summer. The Cliffs of Moher are about 30 minutes up the coast - a natural addition to the trip if you are making a weekend of it. There is more to see in Doonbeg and across Co. Clare.
