an casadh (the turn) - Bio-Sculptural Installation, Cork Midsummer Festival

At Elizabeth Fort · Barrack Street, Cork City, Co. Cork

an casadh bio-sculptural installation at Elizabeth Fort Cork Midsummer Festival 2026

What to Expect

“an casadh (the turn)” is a bio-sculptural installation and live performance developed by artist Laura Ni Fhlaibhin, commissioned by The Glucksman in partnership with Cork Midsummer Festival. Earthworms inhabit sculptural cocoons, processing organic waste into vermicompost, making ecological co-existence tangible and visible. Live performances activate the installation at Elizabeth Fort, drawing on the site’s history as a women’s convict depot and the artist’s personal experience of endometrial illness, exploring health, virility and restoration. Curated by Katie O’Grady of The Glucksman, the project was developed with biologists at UCC and community gardening initiatives.
