At Cyprus Avenue · Caroline Street, Cork
Anthony Gomes is one of those guitarists who earns the “blues rock” tag honestly - his playing draws on the deep tradition of Chicago and Texas blues while carrying the voltage of hard rock. The Toronto-born, St. Louis-based musician has been at this for more than two decades, released fifteen studio albums, topped the Billboard Blues Chart at number one, and earned a personal endorsement from B.B. King along the way. Total Guitar named him one of the 100 Greatest Blues Guitarists of All Time in 2024. He is currently touring his latest number one album, Praise the Loud, across 17 countries, and Cork gets a Friday night stop on 10 July 2026. If you like your blues played at concert volume with real craft behind it, this is a good night to be in the city.
Gomes performs with his band, and the set will draw on a catalogue that spans riff-heavy blues rock, R&B grooves, and Americana-flavoured songwriting. He has a reputation as a performer who gives a full show - no half-measures on stage - and Cyprus Avenue is exactly the right size for this kind of act: 500 capacity, intimate enough that you can feel the guitar work properly. Doors open at 7pm, so there is time to settle in before the main event. The show runs until around 10:30pm. This is an 18+ event.
Cyprus Avenue is on Caroline Street in Cork city centre, a short walk from Patrick Street and the main retail core. If you are coming by train, Cork Kent Station is about 15 minutes on foot, or a quick taxi ride. Bus Eireann and regional coaches stop at Parnell Place bus station, also close by. Driving into Cork on a Friday evening means motorway access from the N25 (Waterford direction), N22 (Kerry/Killarney), or M8 (Dublin). City centre parking is available at several multi-storey car parks, including Lavitt’s Quay and the Opera House car park - book or arrive early on a Friday night.
Cork city is worth arriving early for - the English Market alone merits an hour, and the riverside quays around Union Quay and Sullivan’s Quay are good for a pre-show meal. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
