If you have ever watched Bridgerton and thought the candlelit drawing rooms and towers of pastel patisserie looked like a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon, Bishop’s Gate Hotel has staged exactly that. On 30 August 2026 the hotel opens its Northern Counties Ballroom for an afternoon tea directly inspired by the series, inviting guests to arrive in their finest Regency attire and settle in for a lavish spread served with ceremony. It suits bridal parties, birthday groups, mother-daughter occasions, or anyone who simply enjoys the theatre of a well-laid table and has been looking for a reason to wear feathers in public.
The Northern Counties Ballroom at Bishop’s Gate is a grand, high-ceilinged room that lends itself to this kind of occasion - it has the proportions you would expect from a Victorian building that once served as the headquarters of the Honourable The Irish Society. For the Bridgerton event the room is dressed for the season, and the menu runs to dainty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and a selection of sweet treats, all served alongside a proper pot of tea. The hotel encourages guests to dress the part - feathers, florals, lace and gloves are all warmly welcomed - and that collective effort to look the part tends to make the afternoon more of an event than a simple lunch. The hotel bills it as one of the season’s most anticipated affairs and spaces are limited, so it sells out ahead of time.
Bishop’s Gate Hotel sits at 24 Bishop Street, inside Derry’s historic walled city. It is an easy walk from the city centre and from both bus stations - Foyle Street Bus Station is roughly ten minutes on foot. If you are driving from Dublin, the A1/M1 north to Newry and then the A2 west brings you into Derry in around two and a half hours. From Belfast, the M22 and A6 westbound is roughly an hour and a quarter. Pay-and-display parking is available on Bishop Street and in several nearby city-centre car parks.
Derry is a compact, walkable city and the Bishop Street area places you right beside the 17th-century city walls, a ten-minute loop from St Columb’s Cathedral to Shipquay Gate.
