BrickFlicks Stop Motion Animation Camp

At Mermaid Arts Centre · Main Street, Bray, Co. Wicklow

Children building LEGO stop motion animation sets

Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray runs a week-long stop motion animation camp for children aged 8 to 12 from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July 2026, 10am to 2pm each day. Children bring their own LEGO minifigures and use them to build short animated films from scratch, working through storyboarding, filming and editing over the five days. The camp suits kids who like building or storytelling turned into something they make themselves rather than watch on a screen. Demand has been strong: the camp is fully booked for 2026.

What to expect

Each four-hour day, including a short break, covers a different stage of animation filmmaking. Children start with the basics of stop motion, moving LEGO minifigures frame by frame to create the illusion of movement, then build sets and props for their own scenes. Storyboarding sessions get the group planning a story before anyone touches a camera. Filming uses iPads, with children learning to keep a steady frame and work in small increments, and the week finishes with basic editing and sound design so each child leaves with a finished short film. The camp mixes solo work with group projects, so children get individual screen time on their own scene as well as a shared production. Numbers are kept small enough that instructors can help each child through the technical steps. A packed lunch is needed, as the camp runs straight through the middle of the day.

Getting there

Mermaid Arts Centre is on Main Street in Bray town centre, a short walk from Bray DART and rail station, which has regular services from Dublin and Wicklow. Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus routes also stop in the town centre. Street and pay parking are available nearby, though Bray’s seafront can be busy on summer days, so allow extra time.
