A full summer of structured activity for children aged 4 to 12, Camp Fota runs inside the grounds of Fota Island Resort from late June right through to the end of August. It is aimed squarely at families looking for somewhere their kids can burn energy, make things, and play with other children while the adults get a bit of breathing space. The camp operates out of its own dedicated Lodge on the resort grounds, giving children a proper base rather than just a cordoned-off corner of a hotel car park.
The daily programme mixes creative and physical activities - arts and crafts sessions, spaghetti engineering challenges, soccer skills, garden games, and a fairy trail that winds through the resort’s mature woodland. The Lodge itself has storage for bags and access to on-site toilet facilities. Children also get to use the resort playground as part of the programme.
The mix of activities means it works for younger children who want something imaginative (the fairy trail goes down well with the 4 to 7 age group) and older kids who want more physical challenge. The soccer coaching and team-based engineering tasks hold the interest of the 8 to 12 bracket fairly well.
Fota Island Resort is a five-star property with 7 km of woodland walks, a family swimming pool, and a cinema room with evening screenings - so parents staying on site have genuine options for the day beyond hovering near the Lodge.
Fota Island sits roughly 15 km east of Cork City, and one of the most convenient ways to arrive is by Irish Rail. The Cork to Cobh commuter line stops at Fota Station, which is right at the edge of the resort - no car needed if you are coming in from the city. By road, take the N25 eastbound from Cork and exit at Carrigtwohill; the resort is signposted from there. On-site parking is available for guests and day visitors.
