What to Expect

Carlow County Museum, housed in the historic Town Hall on the Potato Market, offers free self-guided visits to four galleries tracing the history of County Carlow from prehistoric times to the 20th century. Standout objects include the original gallows trapdoor from Carlow Gaol, a magnificent 6-metre carved stone pulpit from Carlow Cathedral, artefacts from the Carlow Sugar Factory, items relating to Captain Myles Keogh (of Little Bighorn fame), and a 340-million-year-old fossilised squid. The museum also holds extensive photographic and documentary archives for local and genealogical research.

Getting There

The museum is in Carlow Town Hall on the Potato Market, in the town centre. Carlow Train Station is approximately 10 minutes on foot. Car parking is available nearby.
