At Barrow Way Towpath · River Barrow, Carlow, Co. Carlow
The Barrow Way is a 114km off-road trail following the River Barrow from Lowtown in Kildare to St Mullins in Co. Carlow. The Carlow section, from Carlow Town south through Leighlinbridge and on to Borris, is flat, traffic-free and ideal for family cycling and walking. Short sections of 5 to 15km can be done as a day out and the towpath surface is suitable for most bikes and prams.
Open year-round, dawn to dusk, free to use.
Access points at Carlow Town, Leighlinbridge, Bagenalstown (Muinebheag) and Borris.
Bike hire available in Carlow Town (check local providers).
Bring snacks and water - limited facilities on the towpath itself, but villages along the route have pubs and cafes.
Start at Carlow Town Quay (parking off Potato Market) or at Leighlinbridge village (parking beside the bridge on the River Barrow).
