What to Expect

Carlow Central Library offers a free 30-minute genealogy consultation service with a professional genealogist, available by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The service helps visitors trace their Carlow family history using the library’s extensive local studies collection, which includes parish records, the recently released 1926 Census of Ireland, Griffith’s Valuation, Tithe Applotment Books, graveyard registers, local newspapers, Rate Books, and Poor Law Union records. The Local Studies Department also holds maps, directories, photographic collections, and published Carlow histories.

Carlow Central Library is on Tullow Street in Carlow Town centre, a 5-minute walk from the bus and train stations.
