At VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art · Old Dublin Road, Carlow, R93 A3K1
VISUAL Carlow hosts a weekly Mother and Baby Yoga class for new mothers and babies who are not yet walking, run by yoga teacher Laura Locab, who has more than 585 hours of accredited training and a specialism in prenatal and postnatal yoga alongside Ayurvedic postpartum doula training. The hour-long session combines gentle, embodied movement designed to support postpartum recovery with meditation, baby massage and maternal stretches, and is deliberately relaxed about babies’ needs - mothers are free to move around, feed, change or settle their baby at any point without disrupting the class. Tea and coffee are included afterwards, giving the session a social element as much as a physical one, and it gives mothers on maternity leave in Carlow a rare class built specifically around the realities of life with a very young baby rather than a general postnatal fitness class. VISUAL runs a broader weekly yoga programme alongside this class, including a general Saturday morning session in the Link Gallery, so the venue is already set up for mat-based classes with a bright, quiet space away from the main gallery footfall.
VISUAL is on the Old Dublin Road on the grounds of Carlow College, a short walk from Carlow town centre. On-site car parking is available, which is worth using given the extra kit that comes with a very young baby.
