Clare Watersports Kids Camp - Ballyalla Lake Ennis

What to Expect

Clare Watersports runs weekly kids camps at Ballyalla Lake on the edge of Ennis right through July and August, and the week beginning 3 August is one of three remaining August sessions. Each morning runs from 11am to 1pm on the lake, with children rotating through kayaking on stable sit-on-top kayaks, stand-up paddleboarding, water games and general supervised play in the water. The sit-on-top kayaks are chosen deliberately because they are forgiving, a child who capsizes gets back on easily, and no prior experience is needed. Buoyancy aids are mandatory and supplied by the camp, and beach lifeguards are on duty at Ballyalla every day throughout July and August, on top of the instructors running the camp itself. The camp is open to children aged 8 and over, and groups are kept small enough that instructors can give real one-to-one attention on the water rather than just supervising from the shore.

Getting There

Ballyalla Lake is on the Tulla Road (R352), about three kilometres east of Ennis town centre, roughly five minutes by car. There is parking at the lake itself. Ennis sits on the N18 between Limerick, half an hour south, and Galway, about an hour north, with Bus Éireann services from both, though the lake is not walkable from the bus station so a car or taxi is needed for the final stretch.
